The BISON Children's Scholarship Fund
Intro to Diocesan Aid
About the BISON Fund
The BISON Children's Scholarship Fund is a privately funded tuition assistance program for low-income children living in the eight counties of Western New York: Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Wyoming and Orleans. Families awarded a BISON scholarship are able to send their child to a private elementary school of choice. Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, BISON will offer its 8th grade graduates tuition assistance in high school.
The BISON Fund also provides a limited number of homeschool awards. If you currently homeschool or are interested in homeschooling your children and you meet all the requirements in New York State, we will pay 25-75% of the cost of correspondence course tuition and /or teaching supplies, up to $500 per child.
On average more than 95% of BISON 8th grade graduates graduate from high school and more than 85% continue on to college.
Thanks to the generosity of the Western New York community and matching grants from the Children Scholarship Fund (CSF), the BISON Children's Scholarship Fund has grown from helping 200 children in its first year to nearly 29,500 children today. These BISON children attend 78 different private or Catholic schools in the Western New York area.
While BISON's dramatic growth in scholarship support is remarkable, the demand for BISON scholarships is even more overwhelming as awareness of the program has heightened.
This demand is our challenge, and we appreciate your generosity to help more children have a better chance for a brighter future!
