Local Students from Northern Chautauqua Catholic School Raise Money for American Heart Association
DUNKIRK, N.Y. (March 3, 2015) - 110 local students from Northern Chautauqua Catholic School raised over $3,000 for the "Jump Rope for Heart" fundraiser. The students were able to participate in healthy exercises while the public who donated to the cause were helping children battle heart disease.
The jump roping event took place during the week of Feb. 23 at Northern Chautauqua Catholic School.
The students had two weeks to raise as much money possible to meet their original goal of $500. This goal was then succeeded by great efforts of the students to raise over $3,000. During the event, each grade jump roped for 40 minutes. Mr. Hamilton, the gym teacher at NCCS, is the one who coordinated this event.
After asking Mr. Hamilton what his inspiration was behind this event he stated, "There are two kids who attend NCCS that are survivors of heart disease and this seemed like a really great cause to get out to the public."
It is the mission of NCCS to provide a foundation for Christian living by integrating and nurturing faith through teaching and example and thereby becoming an extension of the teaching mission of the Roman Catholic Church.
