DeSales Names Hall of Fame Inductees

DeSales Catholic School is pleased to announce that five graduates of DeSales High School have been named as the inaugural inductees to the school's Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame.

The 2013 inductees are:

·         John Beilein '71 - Men's Basketball Coach at U. of Michigan, Lansing MI

·         Paul F. Cole '57  - Retired Teacher and Labor Leader, Loudonville, NY

·         Rev. Joseph C. Dumphrey OSFS '53 - Parochial Vicar, St. John the Baptist, Lockport NY

·         H. Margaret Stephanski-Argentine PhD, RN, CNE  '63 - Nurse, Educator and Community Health Advisor, Oneida, NY

·         Rev. David M. Whalen OSFS '61 - Pastor, St. Pius X, Toledo OH

These five individuals will be honored at the inaugural Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame Induction Dinner on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Classics V on Niagara Falls Boulevard.  The following morning, a Mass will be celebrated with the inductees and the current students and faculty at DeSales Catholic School. A commemorative display recognizing the Hall of Fame inductees is being constructed at DeSales, and will be unveiled prior to the Mass.   Tickets and sponsor information for the dinner can be obtained by calling the school's Advancement office at (716) 433-6422.  Chairmen of the Alumni Hall of Fame dinner are Mark Jaekle and Mike Mullane.

This special event will help to fund tuition assistance grants at DeSales Catholic School, providing an opportunity for current and future students to enjoy the benefits of a quality Catholic education.   As one of the largest Regional Elementary Schools in the Diocese of Buffalo, DeSales is dedicated to offering deserving K - 8 students the opportunity for a quality Catholic education.  Through the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends in the community, DeSales is able to provide over $60,000 in tuition assistance grants to dozens of local families each year.  Requests for tuition assistance have increased in recent years, and events such as the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame Induction dinner will provide additional financial support for students in need. 

Nominations to the Hall of Fame were submitted by alumni, parents, relatives, friends and members of the communities served by DeSales. Graduates of DeSales High School, St. Joseph's Academy, St. Mary's School, St. Patrick's School, St. John the Baptist School, Lockport Catholic School, and DeSales Catholic School were eligible for consideration.  Each nominee's credentials were carefully evaluated by a volunteer Hall of Fame selection committee.  This seven person group includes DeSales alumni from several different decades, as well as current and former DeSales faculty members.
