Message from the Superintendent of Schools

The Catholic schools of the Diocese of Buffalo have been serving the people of Western New York for over 150 years. During that time, the dedicated pastors, teachers, and administrators of those schools have provided an excellent Catholic education to hundreds of thousands of children, thus contributing to the Greater Buffalo area, New York State, and the nation the gift of people who have been educated in the Catholic faith.

These schools continue to be a gift to the civic, business, and academic communities. Each year, Business First ranks the schools according to their New York State test scores, and each year, the Catholic schools of the Diocese of Buffalo rank highest. Our schools strive to be on the cutting edge of technology, curriculum, and child development. Our dedicated administrators and teachers are in constant formation as educators and child specialists.

We have made tremendous strides, over the past few years, in revitalizing our schools so that they remain relevant and equipped to prepare our students for jobs that don't yet exist. Our STREAM program is the envy of dioceses across the country; over 30 dioceses have contacted us to learn how we engage our students in a STREAM environment.
We have instituted school boards of specified jurisdiction, utilizing the talents of generous lay people to govern our schools, lending their expertise to creating budgets, monitoring policies, planning for the future, and assessing the leadership of the schools.

We have updated our curriculum, providing intense professional development to our teachers and principals, maintaining high standards for instruction and the preparation of teachers and school leaders, and partnered with community resources.

But more important, the Catholic schools of the Diocese provide an excellent grounding in the Catholic Faith, working in partnership with parishes and parents so that, as a faith community, we can contribute to the Church young people whose mind, body, and soul have been nurtured in the school setting. Our teachers and our administrators are certified, not only by New York State, but as catechists of the Diocese of Buffalo, trained in the best methods of passing on the Catholic Faith, and of training our students to be service-oriented, prayerful, and contributory members of their communities.

We encourage parents to explore and inquire about sending their children to these fine schools. Our schools serve children of all faiths, ethnic backgrounds, and economic strata; in short, we give young people a great start in life.
