Things to Consider: Taking the Tour

You have done your research. You have made the choice to enroll your child in a Catholic school. Maybe you narrowed down your list to a few Buffalo schools; maybe you have a particular Christian school in mind. A great way to determine the best private elementary or high school in Buffalo for your child is to take a tour of the campus with them. Here are a few things to consider when visiting and/or taking a tour of the school.

Bring Your Own Preparation- Notes, Wish List, Questions You or Your Child Have

Bring Materials to Take Notes- Write Down Thoughts and Questions as you go

Examine the Physical Environment- Is the Climate Conducive to your child's personality? What is the look and feel of the school?

Take Note of the Overall Mood/Morale of Students and Faculty- Happy? Respectful? Engaged? Excited?

Determine if you see a Clear Reflection of the School's Stated Mission

Take Note of the Conduct and Behavior of the Students - Are they Productive? Motivated? Behaved?

Examine Characteristics of Conduct and Behavior of the Entire Administration- Beyond just the faculty of teachers- Engaged? Happy? Respectful?

Does the Classroom Support Different Learning Styles?

Recognize the Level of Community within the School's Campus: How close are the students and faculty? -

Do you like the Interactions and Communication between Students and School Administration? Observe interaction both Inside and Outside of the classroom.

What are the School's expectations of their students?

What are the Distinguishing Factors of this School- Versus similar schools in the area?

Most Importantly- Do you think your child would fit in here? Ask your child if they could see themselves being happy going to this school.

Taking a tour with your child will enable you to have a better understanding of the overall experience of each particular potential private elementary or high school. The better prepared you are, the more useful information you will be able to take from the tour.
