Have Fun and Stay Fit | 3 Summer Runs for Families of Western New York

Aug. 12th, 2016 11:33 am
Summer is flying by! Today WNY Catholic Schools welcomes August.  Many of you have already started traversing the store aisles stocking up on pencils, pens, binders, paper and other back to school supplies. But at least for now, there's still plenty of summer fun in the air before the kids have to go back to their respective elementary schools in Buffalo & WNY.

We all know how important staying active is in maintaining good health, and establishing a lifetime of healthy habits starts early.  For school-age children, physical activity has proven to develop the strength, coordination and confidence necessary to build a solid foundation for a healthy lifestyle that transitions into adulthood.  Guidelines for school-age children suggest 1 hour or more of moderate and vigorous physical activity on most or all days.  With about a month left before schools start back up, we thought it'd be a great time to suggest some fun events where the whole family can partake in physical activity together!

Erie County Fair 5K: Saturday August, 13 at 8:30 a.m.

August is fair season in Western New York and while hundreds of thousands of fairgoers flock to the third largest county fair in the nation to enjoy sights, sounds, animals and food, families can also stay active and participate by walking or running in the fair's 5K.  Proceeds benefit the Erie County Agricultural Society Scholarship Fund and the 3.1-mile course begins inside the fair's grandstand and continues through the Village of Hamburg.

Registration is $20.00 (pre) and $25.00 (race day) and includes:
(2) Two Fair Admission Tickets (valid any day of the 2016 Erie County Fair)
