Tuition costs can intimidate and stifle any parent to be steered away from the positive effects that come with the knowledge and experience gained through a Catholic education. Prospective parents of lower income families could be led to believe that Catholic education is only for the more fortunate. Students of Buffalo schools, WNY elementary schools, or any schools in WNY can apply for financial aid. There are organizations who are dedicated to providing opportunity for children of lower income families to be able to attend Catholic schools in WNY.

The BISON scholarship fund is an organization founded in 1995 with the intention of providing tuition assistance for low income elementary school children to attend the Catholic elementary school of their choice. The tuition assistance program is privately funded, and enables families who are awarded with a BISON scholarship to enroll their K-8 child in any Catholic or private schools in WNY within 8 different counties.

Since its inception 19 years ago, the organization has awarded more than 17 million dollars and 22,350 scholarships to economically disadvantaged families in and around WNY. BISON is exclusive to our region, but is proud to be the fifth largest program of its kind in the entire United States!

In 2013-14, BISON was able to send students to 78 different private schools in WNY. We believe that every student deserves the chance to be inspired and enriched within a faith-based program. BISON Scholarship fund deserves recognition for the good work they are doing to help make Catholic education accessible to all.
