Christmas for Others from Bishop Timon - St. Jude

The Timon Community adopted several families within the local community, who are facing challenging times and hardships. Students, faculty and staff participated by donating money and purchasing items on the family’s wish list. Wish lists included items such as clothing, toys, books, art supplies, CDs and learning toys. The gifts were wrapped and distributed to the families by Timon students under the guidance of the school’s Guidance Department.

“This is another way Timon reinforces the teachings of St. Francis by giving of themselves to help those in need,” said Tena McCarthy, a member of the Campus Ministry Team and project coordinator. “Through this community initiative our students realize how truly blessed they are and how important it is to help those who may not be as fortunate.”

Many of the families adopted by Timon are single parent households with anywhere between two and five children. Many are not only requesting toys for the holiday but also food.

“Many of the families are the working poor,” said Mrs. McCarthy. “They work but just do not make enough money to make ends meet or purchase extras, like toys.” “Everybody comes together, the faculty, staff, administrators, students; just to see how the students react when they realize what they are doing is really what the Project is all about.”
